Items relating to the aftermath of the "Columbia Crisis" of the spring of 1968: (1) a two-page letter written by Richard Hofstadter to David Truman, Vice President of Columbia University, in which he proposes several reforms to the university administration; (2) a letter written by Hofstadter, along with Professors Fritz Stern and Loren R. Graham, regarding Columbia University's involvement with the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC); (3) a letter written by Hofstadter concerning the problem of disruptive students; and (4) a three-page report, in the Columbia Newsletter, on a statement on academic freedom and the university signed by 100 faculty, including Hofstadter.
